Artist's Comments

People seem to be misinterpreting this series...

This is not a "fuck glamour" series, I'm accually quite fond of glamour photography, it's one of the only forms that is still effective at commercially reinventing itself, and that is admirable. It is also not a direct stab at Kate Moss and her publicised coke useage --as suggested by someone on another site--I could care less.
It is a comment on the current artistic trend that has made violence glamourous, especially here on DA, but also in pop culture (take a look at Die Another Day by Madonna [link] ). This is not to say I'm against it, I would be a hypocrite if I did. I think it is incredibly effective imagery, and in the end, that is exactly what I am going for here. Only I took a different approch to it...
Whereas most macabre artists make the model sexy and posed, with blood and gore, this pose is vulnerable and unattractive, yet the "blood and gore" are pearls and sparkles (the black eye was suppose to be much shinier and the blood is sparkley, it just didn't end up showing up because of lighting difficulties).

Anyway...I just thought I would clear that up.

I think it's beautiful. The vaunerable pose and glamorous pearls make for a striking contrast...and as your eyes and mind try to find a balance between the two...they come together quite wonderfully as a whole image.

I'm faving this.

I love the image and I love the message.

Wow thanks for the explanation, it helped me understand the image alot better. I didnt think it was an attack on glamour but I wasnt to sure what the message was. I was just browsing some of the more glorified deviants on DA and had very similar thoughts. Dont get me wrong im aware of what pop is all about. Sex sells and so does violence. There the two easiest and most stimulating forms of pleasure to convey. The media uses that to there advantage. I find most of the art based around these themes lately to be dull and bland. I like images of sex and images of violence as long as there being displayed in a clever manner. In photo's and art im more attracted to clever ideas. I find the approach to this clever and thought provoking. The image is well done too. Sorry for the long boring rant.

I really like this photo. You definitely did a beautiful job with a unique idea, with a valid point about the attention that violence derives. Though personally i dont think art "commercially reinventing itself" is a good thing; thats why Jewel looks like a hooker now.

A mind laid open is not a mind of vulnerability; exposed to the cold, but instead one blanketed in creativity and comforted by the excuse.

What I mean by glamour commercially reinventing itself is that it can maintain it's artistic intent throughout it's evolution. It isn't static like most forms of photography seems to be now adays...it bends the limit and doesn't stick to rules.
The evolution of pop culture is definately going downhill, I agree.
